Since March 2020 there has been an increase in the number of cyclists on the roads.
Accidents from potholes
Bike accidents from cyclists hitting potholes are on the increase. We act for a cyclist who sustained facial injuries and damage to his teeth when he hit a pothole. We secured an early admission of liability from the local highways authority.
If you have been injured in a cycling accident then we recommend you or a friend takes some photographs as soon after the accident as you are able to show your approach to the hazard and then sufficient pictures to show the size and depth of the pothole. These will be a great help in proving your claim.
Accidents with other vehicles
Cyclists are also being injured in accidents or collisions with other vehicles (cars, buses and delivery vans or common). We act for a cyclist who was injured when an Asda delivery van reversed into him.
Again, it is important where possible to take the name, address and registration number of the vehicle causing the collision. A photograph showing the position of, and any damage to, your bike and the other vehicle (if they have stopped) is very useful. Take a picture of the vehicle registration plate. We can use this to find the insurance company and the registered keeper.
If you are badly injured ask a friend to take the pictures or you can do it at a later point. Photographs showing your approach to the scene of the accident and the other driver’s approach are very useful.
If you have been involved in such an accident and wish to make a claim please get in touch with Sentinels Solicitors (Nick or Vicky) on 01925 759 510, or fill in the contact form on this page.
